10 Cars That Go Over 200,000 Miles | 5 Are Hondas

For its June issue, Consumer Report ran an assessment of vehicles that are most likely to turn over 200,000 miles.  

As the USA Today put it, "With the average amount paid for a new car now firmly above $30,000, it makes sense to hold on to a vehicle as long as possible in order to squeeze every usable mile out of it before it needs to be traded in. But when it come to the long-mileage derby, the car you choose can make a big difference on whether you'll hit the magic 200,000-mile mark."

So which cars will get you to 200,000? Five are Hondas.  Five are Toyotas.  No other cars or brands made the list. 

The most trustworthy Hondas: 

Honda Odyssey

Honda Pilot

Honda Accord sedan

Honda CRV

and, of course, the Honda Civic.

Honda Pilot is 'Ready to Rock at Costco'

A hundred years ago, before my Honda conversion, I drove a Chevy Corsica. Who can believe it? I'm pretty sure I just picked Rosie because she was cost-effective and red. (Two very important car-buying criteria!) Nevertheless, Rosie introduced me, the hard way admittedly, to my first Honda Pilot. We were playing dirty game of "broadside" in the middle of an intersection, but I distinctly remember that once I got over the initial shock of it all--I imprinted that Pilot on my memory for good. Now, this was all back somewhere around 2003, and the Pilot has come a long way since then, but I still remember thinking I wouldn't mind having a ride like that.

Fast-forward to today. Chevrolet doesn't even make a Corsica anymore, but Honda's still cranking out the ever-popular Pilot. Why? Well, for now let's chalk it up to superior craftsmanship and the old Honda staying power.

The 2015 Pilot, in fact, is still a little bit of bedrock in its field. According to Kelly Blue Book, "Its tidy exterior proportions make it easy to maneuver through cramped parking lots and rush-hour traffic, yet with seating for up to eight passengers, it can hold as many people as most full-size SUVs. Add in Honda's reputation for reliability and strong resale, and the Pilot begins to look like a sure bet." And while it's not the sportiest ride on the road, according to Edmunds, "...the Pilot still has several solid basic qualities that should serve a family well.

The main one is space. There's plenty of room on the inside, and even the third-row seats can accommodate adults, making this large crossover a true eight-passenger vehicle. There's also an upside to the Pilot's boxy shape: It allows for a more usefully shaped cargo bay for bulky items and ultimately makes life more convenient. Just drop those rear seats and you're ready to rock at Costco."

While I cringe a little at the word boxy, the Pilot knows what it is: A safe, solid, family-friendly ride. I mean, really, you had me at, "ready to rock at Costco..." Sigh.   So whenever you're ready to move up from a sedan, and need a little extra space for soccer balls and snacks for the kids... but you're not ready for mom jeans and a perm just yet... head on over to Ken Garff Honda of Orem their inventory. I'm a blogger. I often take my mobile hotspot with me to create Internet on the go. There's a place to plug it in that is right at my finger tips. It has has a power outlet for my camera battery charger (another blogging must!) and USB and AUX hookups for just about everything I need to write on the go. And all this is located inside the middle console.  

Better space for changing a diaper.

There's no mistaking that the Odyssey blows everything else out of the water when it comes to trunk space. But, all that space doesn't really help when you have a dirty diaper to change. With one of the back seats folded down in the Pilot, it creates the perfect little changing table!

^^^ And it's just the right height for me!

Odyssey vs. Pilot

We recently switched from an Odyssey to a Pilot.

There is no mistaking that the Pilot is a better looking vehicle, but I have to say ...even with all the bells and whistles Honda provides in each of their vehicles, I MISS MY MINIVAN!

I started to ponder, "What is it that I really love and look for in a vehicle?" I posed the questions to The R House Facebook crew and was met with a hearty response. I adore the 2013 Honda Pilot with its sleek, square design, secret USB port, triple-view backup camera, Bluetooth cell phone capabilities, hard drive for storing music and too many other nifty bells to name. I’m kind of hoping it will be Nathan’s next car because I’m adamant (whenever possible) about our second car fitting the entire family just in case the Odyssey breaks down.

Who am I kidding? Hondas never break down.

Because someone out there might be trying to decide between the Honda Pilot and the Honda Odyssey, my review focused on the difference between the two.

Adventure Mom Test Drives the 2013 Honda Pilot

This week we test drove the 2013 Honda Pilot for a WHOLE week thanks to HONDA OF OREM.

The timing was perfect. We are in the market for a new car.

The Honda Pilot is my dream car and have wanted one for a long time. Last year, we test drove a minivan and just couldn’t get excited about the minivan. It was pretty gutless to me.

It’s kind of a rotten trick to give you the car of your dreams and then try NOT to fall in love with it. Beacuase of this I aproached the test drive very skeptical and was intentionally looking for flaws.

Day 1:

The Ken Garff of Orem team drove to Salt Lake to personally deliver the car. If you’re not familiar with the area, it’s about a 40 minute drive. It was right after a big snow storm, so I apreciated the effort they made in our behalf, especially having young children.

Paul gave me all the details about the car. It was fully loaded: leather seats, back up camera, XM radio, seat heaters, sun roof. They even put in the children’s car seats for me. They were so nice and helpful, I have to admit, I was surprised. Not your typical car salesmen at all.

Happy (Hilarious) Honda Days

I'm an advertising junky.  You know the kind, they like the Superbowl commercials better than the actual Superbowl.  So I was eagerly looking forward to the release of the new... drumroll ... 

Happy Honda Days commercials.  And let me tell you, they do not disappoint!  

Each spot opens with someone thanking Honda for giving their friend or relative a great deal on a new car.  The narrator gives a detailed account of why the car is such a great purchase, hilarity ensues.
