What a Pilot Does Best

Easier access to power outlets.



I'm a blogger. I often take my mobile hotspot with me to create Internet on the go. There's a place to plug it in that is right at my finger tips. It has has a power outlet for my camera battery charger (another blogging must!) and USB and AUX hookups for just about everything I need to write on the go. And all this is located inside the middle console.  

Better space for changing a diaper.

There's no mistaking that the Odyssey blows everything else out of the water when it comes to trunk space. But, all that space doesn't really help when you have a dirty diaper to change. With one of the back seats folded down in the Pilot, it creates the perfect little changing table!

^^^ And it's just the right height for me!

Tech 4 Moms Takes Formerly Phread For a Spin

Blogger Sarah Kimmel has been on a #HondaTestDrive in a 2013 Honda Accord.  We sent her off on a trip to California and now that she's home, she's taking other bloggers our for a spin.

"This week I’m going fast and furious with the test drives.  The next ones will definitely be more spread out, but I had to make up for lost time in California!  My very first test drive was none other than my friend Jenny Eckton of Formerly Phread.

I arrived at her house and told her to hop into the drivers seat.  When she saw the button to turn the car on, she said “is this all I push?”  I confirmed, and she turned the car on.  Then she said “It’s like we live in the FUTURE!”  It really is amazing to just push a button and have the car turn on.  Especially when you’ve been used to turning a key to start the ignition for the last 20 years!"

So, I was talking cars with a friend the other day.  He’s in the market for a nice trade-up from his Geo Prizm (seriously, so sad) and of course, I was all for selling him on a Honda.  You all know my feelings about my Accord, Sugar, so it wasn’t hard to get passionate about it.  I mean, I felt like it wasn’t even an argument.  Honda is just a flat out better car, right?  But he wouldn’t budge.  He wants a Dodge Charger.

Dude, really?

My heart broke just a little, despite the fact that I do actually get a real, red-blooded thrill from an all-American muscle car.   But they’re like a Disney vacation… it’s fun to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there.  

The only catch is, this is a guy who does his homework.  He’s an engineer who takes no choice lightly.  We went to dinner once.  It took him 30 minutes to come up with what he wanted to eat.  (Yikes.) So I decided to do a little homework myself.  I wanted to see what my choice of an Accord was up against.  Turns out, not much.  We’d both buy used, so I based my comparison on the J.D. Power Ratings of the  2009 model of each car.

It’s pretty obvious there’s no real competition.  Honda outranks the Dodge in nearly every single category. So while I give the guy full props for buying with his all-American soul, the ratings speak for themselves. I’ll be taking my bragging rights now.

Odyssey vs. Pilot

We recently switched from an Odyssey to a Pilot.

There is no mistaking that the Pilot is a better looking vehicle, but I have to say ...even with all the bells and whistles Honda provides in each of their vehicles, I MISS MY MINIVAN!

I started to ponder, "What is it that I really love and look for in a vehicle?" I posed the questions to The R House Facebook crew and was met with a hearty response. I took their thoughts and organized them into this little graphic for myself (okay, and for you too) just to compare the Odyssey and the Pilot and which ones works best for my little family.
